Cynthia – Pregnant and Unable to Make Ends Meet

I was skeptical, but glad I went to the Pregnancy Resource Center

A single mother of three was unsure if she wanted to continue with this pregnancy.

When the home pregnancy test Cynthia took came back positive, she immediately picked up her phone and did an internet search for “Free Pregnancy Tests in Redmond, Oregon”. The first listing that displayed on her phone was for the Pregnancy Resource Center and she made an appointment with a few clicks.

Cynthia, a single mother of three was unsure if she wanted to continue with this pregnancy. She was exhausted and barely able to make ends meet. She arrived at the Pregnancy Resource Center, not knowing what to expect, and her appointment took an unexpected turn when her pregnancy test showed up positive. After completing her paperwork she sat with a consultant and they talked about her well-being, her living situation and her pregnancy. She was a little afraid to bring up the idea of an abortion, but happy when her consultant discussed that option with her. In fact, Cynthia was surprised that her consultant talked honestly about all of her options. She hadn’t really talked to anyone and this gave her time to clearly think through what life could be like with four children.

Her pregnancy was confirmed and Cynthia left with free prenatal vitamins in her hand and an abundance of resources she never knew existed in her community. “I really thought that I would have a pregnancy test and they would give me information on where I could have an abortion. Instead, I was surprised that they were there to listen to me. We talked, really talked, about my life and how having another baby would be hard, but there was help if I needed it. My consultant Anne, told me that they don’t provide or refer for abortions, but would happy to talk with me about all my options. By the end of my appointment she asked if she could pray for me. I didn’t expect that, but honestly, it made me feel better.”

At the Pregnancy Resource Center, every person who walks through our doors is treated with kindness, presented with honest answers and given hope. Our staff is trained to listen and care about each client and their unique situation. Many of our staff have had unplanned pregnancies and know the feelings our clients are experiencing. We care about the whole person, not just the momentary crisis. Our hope is that every client walks away from their appointment feeling valued and served well.
